The Academy is an organisational network consisting of people who involve themselves with magic. While the phrase colloquially refers to the academia of the actual organisation of The Institution of Magical Arts, The Academy extends to all magic practitioners within the orthodoxy.

This network of people forms a sub-culture around the study of the phenomenon that induces Magic. Practitioners of Magic also belong to this sphere, albeit as users. Some are more keenly involved, whilst most simply wish to borrow the convenience of Magic.

Whilst varied across groups, consensus on the practice, moderation and standardisation of Magic is maintained. While not as free as the Magic of the unorthodox, the standardisation of Magic allowed keen moderation for the sake of safety.

The Institution of Magical Arts was established by The Great Sage for three main purposes:

• The Cultivation of Magical Arts - Research new methods and teachings of the Arts.
• The Moderation of Magical Arts - Policing and executing force related to the Arts.
• The Preservation of Magical Arts - Secure, archive, and protection of the Arts.

The Institution of Magical Arts is THE authority of Magic, representing The Academy in The Modern Kingdom.

Meanwhile, researchers of The Academy are nonetheless heavily invested in the study of Magic, orthodox or not. Though publicly and to the general practitioner, The Academy’s Standard for Magic is the Standard for Orthodox Magic.

The Academy serves as the delicate moderator of the development of Magic while sealing away the destructive implication of Magic and strict selective processes were in place (albeit, easily bypassable by the nobility) in the access of magic.

Policing the application and circulation of Magic is under the jurisdiction of The Academy. The policing of Magic is a modern concept that emerged in The Academy after The War. At the time of The War, there are few restraints on the direction Magic is developed or the extent of its application. After the War, the need for policing the application and circulation of magic became apparent. Regulations were set in place, and those who breach them faced severe repercussions from The Institution of Magical Arts. In extreme cases, the actions taken include the complete reinstitution of a person through Magical means or termination. This is done so in cooperation with The Modern Kingdom’s laws.

The Great Sages, progenitors of Magic active during The Ancient all met untimely deaths. Be it accidents, mysterious death, caught in circumstances, suicide or just straight-up went missing.
